Trying new things

September 11, 2016

Elder Higashi ate a war head!!!

Hahaha hillarious.

Chicken, horse, and fish!!!

Horse...

Surprisingly good.
 I don't know if I believe him.

Fish!!!! All body, head, and everything.

This is Sunday nights dinner with the bishop.
He is the man by the
door in a white shirt.
The girl next to the sisters is the

investigator and her mom is next to her. Fun night.

These are the missionaries in my area.
Narita.

Narita missionaries!

Hello everyone!
This whole week we have been trying to guess what is going to happen
with transfers and I just got my call from President Nagano.
President Nagano talked to me last and he said, "Elder Unsworth you
have been called to be a TRAINER!!!!!!!!" I AM SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!  I
have been wanting to be a trainer my whole mission and now I finally
get to do it.  Granted at the beginning of my mission I didn't want to
be because of the Japanese but now that I have a foundation of
Japanese, I have been really wanting to be a trainer.  Now I get to do
it!!!!  I am so excited and I was so scared that I wasn't going to be
a trainer.  My joy is off the scales.  When president Nagano told me
that I just screamed and said Yes!  He was happy too.  He had a really
good feeling about me and he said I have high faith, I am a strong
missionary, and I will be an excellent trainer.  He trusts me and he
knows I will do great.  That made me so happy.  He told me over the
phone that he trusts me and that he knows I will be a great trainer.
He said a couple other things but sadly I can't remember them, but
what I do remember is the love I felt and the satisfaction that I
felt.  I am so happy that I am going to be a trainer and I am going to
work my hardest to satisfy President Nagano and the Lord.  I just hope
and pray that my trainy is from Utah.  I really want to be able to
hang out with him after the mission. I find out who my trainy is on
Wednesday.   I will love him with all my heart who ever it is and I
will take care of him and I am going to work his shoes off!  We are
going to work hard and see some success this next transfer!  I am
going to love being a trainer so much, we are going to work so hard
and have fun at the same time! :)
The next big thing that happened this week was Sunday.  I was asked to
give a talk in church and it went really well.  I talked about
families and introduced myself and there was actually one really funny
part.  I got up there and I was talking and then I forgot one word.
It was relationship.  I totally blanked and couldn't think of it.  So
I looked at Elder Higashi in the crowd and said, "Relationship" The
whole Ward then said, "Kanke" which is what it is in Japanese.  It was
pretty funny!  I laughed about it, they laughed about it, and it
totally broke the ice with everyone.  It was a great talk and I love
this Ward so much.  They laugh with me and I feel like we are good
friends now.  Everyone seems to know my name too, so I feel very
loved.  I love them!  Oami also received the Aaronic priesthood!  We
are going to go to the temple together this Tuesday and do baptisms
for the dead with a member.  I am so excited to do that!  I have
wanted to do baptisms for the longest time.  I can't wait to do it
with him.  He is going to love it, I know it!  It is going to be a
very fun week this week.  Oh also, that night we went to the bishops
house to have dinner with them.  It was really good!  They are so nice
and I always love going to members house.  I will send you a picture
of our party.  Fun fact, there is an investigator who did a home stay
with a bishop in Utah, actually it was Elder Porters Ward....  But she
came back to Japan and wants to get baptized now.  She went to the
dinner last night and her mom is okay with it and everything.  I am so
excited to see her get baptized!  Narita is looking really good!  I
love it here and I am excited to work another transfer here.
Sorry this email is going to be a bit short. But next week I will
write more because of my new companion.  I am so excited for him.
Also tomorrow I am going to the temple to do baptisms for the dead
with Oami!  He is so excited and I am way excited to! It is going to
be way fun and then the next day I get to pick up my new companion.
This week is going to be epic! I love the mission and I love seeing
all the miracles in Japan.  It is such a special place to me now.  I
love it here.
Thank you all for your love and support.  I hope you are having a
wonderful time and I hope to hear from you soon! Go to the blog and
check out the pictures if you haven't yet!  I love you all so much and
I will talk to you next week!  Look at my Facebook for my new
companion! :)

BAPTISM!!!

September 5, 2016

Getting the font ready for the baptism!

Elder Higashi, Elder Queiroz, Brother Oami, and me! :)

I love this man so much!!!! He is a spiritual giant!

This is the dinner night on Sunday.
It was such a fun time! :)
 It was
at the Tabuchi's house.

Today we had a sand castle building contest with our Olympic Games.
We
had ten minutes to make this beautiful master piece!
 It was so much fun
and it was actually pretty big for the time we had to make it.
It was
so much fun and I loved building it with my district.
 Narita is so
much fun! :)
We even found dead jelly fish and put it in our moat to act as our monsters!
Haha it was so much fun! :)

This is our sand castle!  It was awesome!

Day at the beach!!! Loved it! :)

We found this photo booth that takes your pictures and makes you look
really cute. I guess it didn't really work with me! ;)
But it was a fun way to end our day!  They took a lot of pictures but
only gave us some, I wish we could have gotten all of them!  But it
was so much fun!  I love my companions and we have so much fun
together. I hope you enjoy these pictures! :)

How is everyone doing this week? This week has been amazing for me!
For those of you who use Facebook, you already have seen my big news
of the week. But the big news for this week was my investigator Oami
got baptized!!! He is a 63 year old man who has a heart of gold. I
love this man so much. When ever I am with him, I feel the Holy Ghost
so much. He is honestly amazing and so sweet.
So Sunday, we woke up and then just went straight to the church.  We
got there and started to fill the font.  I think it took about an hour
and a half to fill it all the way up.  It is not as big as an American
font but wow they still take awhile to fill up!  Sometimes I can't
remember things back in America.  Like how big the roads are, or how
big our churches are and stuff like that.  I am sure I will be culture
shocked again when I come back to America because everything is going
to be so big! Haha But the baptism went great.  We were sitting there
waiting for the font to fill and then I looked up and there stood Oami
in the door way in a nice suit with a giant smile on his face.  I was
so happy to see him and I could just feel the spirit in the room.  We
got him dressed, took some pictures, and then got ready for the
service.  Not too many people showed up but that is okay because this
Ward is kind of small anyways.  But I wish more people would have
shown up for him.  Elder Queiroz was able to do the baptism and that
was his first time!  He is just a transfer two, the lucky dog.  Well
the baptism went great and Oami was as happy as could be afterwards.
The spirit felt that day was amazing. The next cool part was the gift
of the Holy Ghost.  There were three new members who got baptized last
year who just got the Melchezedic Priesthood last week.  So we asked
them if they would like to stand in the circle with us.  One of them
his handicap and can't walk well.  He has a crutch that he hobbles
around on but he can't stand for too long.  So we pulled up a chair
for him to sit on while we did the blessing.  It was at this moment
that I really felt the spirit.  I looked around and there stood three
new brother who stayed active and now hold the Melchezidic Priesthood.
None are married, and they are all three pretty old.  When we placed
our hands on Oami's head I looked at Miyata, which was the man with the
handicap, and I saw him stretch forth his crippled hand and barely
touch Oami's head.  The spirit was so strong.  This man was giving
everything he could so that he could be in the circle.  It is
something so simple, but at the time I really felt the spirit and it
made me realize that sometimes our all is very little and maybe we
can't reach everything we want to reach, but if we really stretch and
if we submit our self to the father, he will make it possible for us to
reach our heights.  If we give our all to the Lord, his grace will be
sufficient with anything in life.  I saw that personally that day and
it touched my heart.  Oami, Miyata, Riki, and Sato are going to be
amazing members in Narita.  I love them all so much!
So many amazing things have happened this transfer!  I have had two of
my dearest friends baptized and I found out that one of my friends
back in America is considering being baptized.  She is currently
learning about the church and has a desire to be baptized when she
knows it is true.  What a blessing it is to see the ones you love
follow the Savior and do what he asks them to do.  I am so lucky to
have so many amazing lucky people in my life.  I love each and every
one of them and I am grateful to call them my friends.  If anything,
this transfer I have really learned about the love that God has for
each and every one of His children.  He really does love us and he
blesses us everyday.  I am so lucky to be serving in Japan and to see
so many amazing miracles everyday.  I love it here and the weather is
finally done with being crazy!  It is just crazy hot now!  At least
the typhoons are away and hopefully they don't come back anytime soon!
Today we had a zone P-day at the beach and man is my neck sunburned!  I
got a hair cut afterwards and I could see a white line where my hair
use to be on my neck and on the side of my head! Haha. But honestly,
there are so many thing that I am experiencing on my mission I that is
making me a better person and it is helping me realize how much or
Savior and Father in Heaven really loves us.  I love them too so much
and I am honored to be able to stand as a witness and share with the
world my testimony of Jesus Christ.  I know that He lives and I know
that He is the Christ.  I know that he knows each and every one of us
and that he cares for us and knows our needs.  He is our Savior and
Redeemer and most of all our friend.  I love him with all my heart and
I am here to do his will.  I would like to share with you all a quote
that has kept me going as a missionary and it is very dear to my
heart.  It is from Elder Bruce R. McConkie, "I am called of God.  My
authority is above that of the kings of the earth.  By revelation I
have been selected as a personal representative of the Lord Jesus
Christ.  He is my Master and he has chosen me to represent him.  To
stand in his place, to say and do what he himself would say and do if
he personally were ministering to the very people to whom he has sent
me.  My voice is his voice, and my acts are his acts; my words are his
words and my doctrine is his doctrine.  My commission is to do what he
wants done.  To say what he wants said.  To be a living modern witness
in word and deed of the divinity of his great and marvelous latter-day
work." This quote always hits home for me and I love it so much.  I
hope you all take a chance this week and go out and help someone in
need.  Do as the Savior would do and help those around you.
I love you all so much and I hope you have an amazing week!  I only
have one week left this transfer and I have a pretty good feeling that
something fun will happen next transfer!  So I will let you know in a
week!  I love you all and I hope to hear form you soon.
Love you!!!  :)

Temple day Typhoon

August 29, 2016

Temple day with my two companions,
Elder Higashi and Elder Quetioz

 Me in the purple tie,
Elder Higashi is in the red tie,
Elder Quetioz is in the blue tie

For pday we went to Asakusa. It is a pretty cool shrine that is
huge!!! But  took some cool pictures of me and the shrine and some
awesome tag pictures. However half of the tag pictures turned out
blurry because of the rain and my unskillful talent. So I am just
sending the ones I think look cool!  When I go back again, I will
retake some good tag pictures.

I love JAPAN!

One handsome missionary!

Love tag pictures!

What a crazy week this past week has been.  First off, luckily the
Typhoon hasn't come back to full force yet, but it is actually suppose
to come back today.  Why is it always on P-Day?  But right now it is
okay, let's hope it stays that way.  Because if it gets too windy then
they close down the trains and if they close down the trains then I am
stuck in Tokyo and can't get back to Narita!  So hopefully everything
goes well today! Haha
I also have some sad news.  My wonderful Companion Elder Porter had to
go home this past week because of some health problems, so I am now
back in a trio.  Fun fact, I have had five companions this past
transfer.  Usually a missionary only has one per transfer, I guess I
am just lucky to have five! But it was sad to see Elder Porter leave.
He was a great missionary and we worked so well with each other.  He
will be greatly missed.  I never had as much fun on my mission then
when I was with him.  He is a great missionary and an even better
friend to me.  I love that guy.  My new companions are Elder Higashi
and Elder Quetoz.  Elder Higashi is from a city near Tokyo called
Yokohama and Elder Quetoz is from Brazil.  So I have now had
companions from all over the world.  I have had them from America,
Japan, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and now Brazil.  All I need is a
Russian, European, and an African and I have pretty much been through
out the whole world! Haha But I love these Elders and they are such a
blessing to my life.  Especially Elder Higashi, he helps me with my
Japanese and he is just a fun guy to be around.  I love him so much.
Some fun things that happened this week was our investigator named
Oami passed his baptism interview!  So we will be having another
Baptism next Sunday!  I am so excited.  Oami is such a cool guy.  He
is 63 but he has a heart of gold.  He is so kind and so spiritual.
When I teach lessons to him I feel the spirit so strong with him.  He
is just one of the nicest guys I have ever met on my mission and he is
so sweet.  I love him and I am overly ecstatic for his  baptism this
Sunday.
Another fun thing that happened was an investigator that Elder Porter
and I found finally was able to meet this week.  His name is Rogers
and he is from Uganda.  He is also a way nice guy.  But we taught him
the restoration this week and his biggest concern was he wanted to
know what church was the true church on the earth.  We taught the
restoration and he said, "I want to read the Book of Mormon". "All I
got to do is Read the Book of Mormon".  It was so cool to see how much
interest he has in the church and his real desire to find out which
church is the true church.  We then asked him if he would be baptized
when he comes to know the Book of Mormon is true.  He said, of course!
So we are on the road to baptism with him as well.  He is doing great
and he emails me everyday and talks to me a bit about how he is doing.
He is such an awesome guy and he is excited to learn more.  I am so
excited to teach Rogers the Plan of Salvation this week and I am even
more excited to see him come to church.  I hope everything goes okay
with him and I hope that we can continue to meet through out the week.
School is starting back up this week so it is going to be a bit hard
to meet because he also has work.  However, with God anything is
possible.  All it takes is a little faith! :)
Narita is simply an amazing place.  I love being here and the members
are so nice and the people here are ready to receive the Gospel.  I
have a feeling that next transfer I might be training.  Mainly because
Elder Higashi is going home at the end of this transfer and because I
don't have a companion right now.  There is also 21 new Elders coming
into the field this transfer so the probability of me training is
pretty high.  At the end of this transfer will mark my 1 year mark of
being in Japan!  I can't believe how fast time has flown by!  It feels
just like yesterday I was getting off the plane and meeting president
Nagano at the airport!  Life is just so fast and crazy! But I love it!
:)
Thank you to everyone who sends me emails and shows their love and
support to me.  Even in the business of your everyday lives you spare
some time to email me,  your emails are very appreciated and they help
me a lot.  I hope you all will go and check out my blog this week.  My
mom recently uploaded my baptism pictures and other pictures that have
been taken within the past couple of weeks.  I hope you go look at
them and enjoy them.  I love you all so much and I love hearing from
you!  Take care and I will talk to you again next week! :)

Typhoon Weather

August 22, 2016

My Zone!

Saporo Temple.  I am going there someday!

Hello everyone!
Japan is currently in a typhoon and it is the

windiest it has ever been in my life!  I am fine and everything is
going well in Narita, but boy I hope my apartment doesn't fly away
anytime soon! Haha But really Japan is going through a crazy typhoon
right now and there is like no one on the streets.  Actually fun fact,
I was walking on the street this morning to go to the church and the
wind was so strong it blew my companion and I across the road.  Good
thing the light was green and we could run across but man was that
crazy!  I will have to send out a video or something of how crazy this
wind is!  I love it though, this is a once in a life time opportunity
for me! :)
As for how this week went, it was actually really hot and there was a
lot of time just talking to people.  We spent so many hours on the
pavement talking to people and spreading the good word.  By the end of
the week we talked to about 300 people!  Crazy right?  But I love it!
We also found about 4 new investigators and they all seem way excited
to meet and learn more.  So we might be getting some more lessons in
this week!  I am so pumped and excited.  My favorite part about my
apartment is being with elder Higashi.  He is a Japanese missionary
and he is so funny.  I love his English and I love talking to him in
Japanese.  He is hilliarisou and defiantly one of my best friends on
my mission.  I also love with all my heart Elder Porter.  He is great
and I feel like we are brothers.  He is so much fun to be with and I
love working with him.  He is a boss missionary and a way hard worker.
But as for this week one pretty awesome thing happened this week!  The
wonderful, beautiful Saporo temple was dedicated by President Nelson.
It was amazing to go to all three sessions and hear the general
authorities talk.  Elder Whiting, who is the area president talked in
Japanese.  I don't know if you all remember him but he gave a prayer
in general conference last October and he was the General Authority I
met back when I was a transfer one.  It was way cool to hear from him.
Also President Nelson gave a talk and someone translated for him.  It
was good to hear from him.  But my favorite part was to hear from
Elder Stevens of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.  For those of you
who don't know, he served his mission in Japan, was a mission
president in Japan, and was the area president for Japan.  So his
Japanese is very good and it was amazing to hear him give a talk in
Japanese.  I loved every part of the ceremony and I felt the spirt so
much.  I think I was able to understand about 75% of it all, so that
was pretty good and it reminds me that my Japanese is getting better
as the days go on.  The talks were good, the dedication was great, and
the spirit was unforgettable.  I love serving in Japan! :)
This week was amazing and I feel like when I go out and do finding
with my companion, I am doing it with my best friend.  I feel like
most the time we are laughing at ourselves or we are laughing at
something funny or stupid that happened.  I just love working with
Elder Porter. Every time we go out and do finding our faces hurt
because we are smiling and laughing too much.  It is the best feeling
in the world.  I love Japan, I love Narita, I love Elder Porter, and I
love this work.  Thank you all for your wonderful love and support you
always give me!  I hope to hear from some of you soon.  I love you and
I will talk to you next week! If you have any questions for me, send
them my way and I will answer them for you!  Love you!!!! :)
